Öğe The level of self-care measures for everyday life in persons who received chemotherapy(Mary Ann Liebert, Inc, 2017) Altun, İnsaf; Sonkaya, AlperA self-care measure quantifies patients’ perceived ability for self-care, operationalized in behaviors related to recognizing and managing symptoms, carrying out activities of daily living, and managing changes in the condition.1 Cancer diagnosis and treatments may have a significant impact on patients’ self-care measures for everyday life.2 This study aimed to identify a group of Turkish patients’ self-care measures performance using some self-care behaviors in everyday life during chemotherapy. We performed a descriptive study in the University Research and Practice Hospital in Kocaeli, Turkey, during 2016. The study was conducted using a convenience sample of persons followed in the oncology outpatient clinic. Participants volunteered to take part in the study: inclusion criteria were literacy; being >18 years of age; having no physical or cognitive disorders that might prevent one from completing the research forms; no hearing, speaking, or vision impairment; no cognitive, neurological, or psychiatric disorders; and use the dominant hand without any restraints. Data were gathered using a patient information form and the 5 themes expressing the most relevant aspects of patients’ self-care measures during chemotherapy. Consent was obtained from participants to use their answers for the purposes of this study. Statistical analysis was performed using the SPSS, version 16.0 (SPSS, Inc., Chicago, IL).Öğe The Most Common Side Effects Experienced by Patients Were Receiving First Cycle of Chemotherapy(Iranian Scientific Society Medical Entomology, 2018) Altun, İnsaf; Sonkaya, AlperThe side effects of chemotherapy among cancer patients can common and become life-threatening and often occur when patients are at home (1, 2). The side-effects of chemotherapy are a weakening and often unobserved clinical obstacle in cancer management. They can influence the continuance of treatment and, have a negative impact on a patient's quality of life. Therefore, oncology health professionals need to recognize side effects experienced by their patients and, when possible, help resolve these problems (3). The current study was conducted to survey the most common side effects experienced by patients were receiving first cycle of chemotherapy. We performed a descriptive study in the University Research and Practice Hospital in Kocaeli, Turkey, during 2016. The study was conducted using a convenience sample of persons followed in the Oncology Outpatient Clinic. Participants were first-time chemotherapy patients with any type and stage of cancer.
