However, the research on nursing students' professional values and its related factors is very limited. Purpose: This cross-sectional and correlational study aimed to examine the mediating effect of empathy between moral sensitivity and professional values. Methods: This study was conducted with 328 second, third and fourth-year students. The participants completed an online survey consisting of the student information form, Modified Moral Sensitivity Questionnaire for Student Nurses, Empathic Tendency Scale and Nursing Professional Values Scale. Results: The results showed that moral sensitivity affected undergraduate nursing students' professional values not only directly but also indirectly through empathic tendency. Conclusions: The results of the study show that moral sensitivity and empathic tendency support the acquisition of professional values in undergraduate nursing students. Nurse educators needs to realize that can be improved professional values by integrating moral sensitivity and empathic tendency in their curriculum.Öğe The Relationship Between Nurses' Individual, Work-related Variables, Colleague Solidarity, and Work Engagement: A Cross-Sectional Study(Ataturk Univ, 2023) Yesilyurt, Tugba; Goktepe, Nilgun; Turkmen, Emine; Yalcin, BegumObjective: The aim of this study was to examine the effect of nurses' individual, work-related variables and colleague solidarity on their level of work engagement. Methods: This cross-sectional, descriptive study was conducted between October and December 2021 in a private chain hospital group in Turkey, using an online survey. The sample of the study consisted of 331 nurses. The Individual and Work-related Characteristics Form, the Colleague Solidarity of Nurses Scale, and the Work Engagement Scale were used for data collection. Descriptive statistics, Spearman correlation, and multiple linear regression analyses were used in the data analysis. Results: In the study, the mean score of the Colleague Solidarity of Nurses Scale was 103.87 (+/- 9.64), and the mean score of the Work Engagement Scale was 61.53 (+/- 16.31). A positive and significant relationship was found between the scores that nurses obtained from the Colleague Solidarity of Nurses Scale and the Work Engagement Scale (r = 0.33, P < .001). In the regression analysis, it was determined that 6 independent variables affected nurses' level of work engagement and that these 6 variables explained 17.9% of the total variance. Conclusion: The results revealed that colleague solidarity, being married, long-term professional experience, and a high perception of workload increased work engagement. The results also indicated that working as a nurse manager and having the intention to leave work reduced work engagement.Öğe Serial-multiple mediation of transformational and clinical leadership in the relationship between work overload and quality of work life among nurses: A Job Demands-Resources Framework(Elsevier, 2023) Karatepe, Hilal Kuscu; Turkmen, EmineBackground: Nurses' quality of work life is a crucial factor in nurse, patient and organisational outcomes. Because work overload and leadership affect quality of work life, it is important to understand the re-lationship between them.Aim: The aims of this study were to investigate the serial multiple mediation of transformational and clinical leadership in the relationship between work overload and quality of life among clinical nurses and to test a model designed to examine the fit and relations between these variables. Methods: This study used a model-testing design with cross-sectional data. The sample consisted of 415 clinical nurses working in hospitals in Turkey. A questionnaire was used to collect data between August and September 2021. Data were analysed using descriptive and correlation analyses. Data analyses included model-testing approaches and were conducted using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences 26.0, Hayes' PROCESS macro for SPSS v4.0, and Analysis of Moment Structures 24.0.Findings: The serial-multiple mediation of transformational leadership perception and clinical leadership skills in the relationship between work overload and quality of work life was found to be statistically significant. The model fit indices were desirable. Conclusion: The results of the study showed that decreased work overload perception was associated first with increased perception of transformational leadership, followed by increased clinical leadership skills, which in turn was related to increased quality of work life among clinical nurses.& COPY; 2023 Australian College of Nursing Ltd.
