Population Health Management, 20(6), 508-508.1942-78911942-7905https://doi.org/10.1089/pop.2017.0029https://hdl.handle.net/20.500.12713/863A self-care measure quantifies patients’ perceived ability for self-care, operationalized in behaviors related to recognizing and managing symptoms, carrying out activities of daily living, and managing changes in the condition.1 Cancer diagnosis and treatments may have a significant impact on patients’ self-care measures for everyday life.2 This study aimed to identify a group of Turkish patients’ self-care measures performance using some self-care behaviors in everyday life during chemotherapy. We performed a descriptive study in the University Research and Practice Hospital in Kocaeli, Turkey, during 2016. The study was conducted using a convenience sample of persons followed in the oncology outpatient clinic. Participants volunteered to take part in the study: inclusion criteria were literacy; being >18 years of age; having no physical or cognitive disorders that might prevent one from completing the research forms; no hearing, speaking, or vision impairment; no cognitive, neurological, or psychiatric disorders; and use the dominant hand without any restraints. Data were gathered using a patient information form and the 5 themes expressing the most relevant aspects of patients’ self-care measures during chemotherapy. Consent was obtained from participants to use their answers for the purposes of this study.
