They are the least common diverticula of the gastrointestinal system. They are usually asymptomatic and are diagnosed accidentally by upper gastrointestinal contrast radiographic studies or upper gastrointestinal endoscopy. Identification is important as they can cause serious complications such as upper gastrointestinal bleeding or perforation.
