Sarcoidosis is a systemic granulomatous disease, characterized by non-caseating granuloma formation. It
usually involves the lungs, but may also affect the
eyes, heart, skin, and musculoskeletal system. The
pathogenesis is not well known, but it is generally
accepted as Th1 disease. The role of Th17-induced
cytokines in the development of sarcoid granuloma
has been reported.
