Özet

This study aims to examine the significance of human capital in gaining financial competitive power. In this framework, first, the study reviews the theoretical and empirical literature on competitive power and human capital. Afterward, putting forward the association between competitive power and human capital, Turkey, a developing country, is evaluated in terms of human capital, which is one of the most important factors enabling countries to gain competitive power and achieve sustainable economic growth. This evaluation was performed following the data retrieved from (i) the World Economic Forum (WEF)’s Global Competitiveness Index (GCI) 4.0, which assesses the drivers of productivity and long-term competitiveness level for each analyzed country, and (ii) the WEF’s Global Human Capital Index (GHCI), which evaluates countries in terms of the degree of optimizing their human capital. Based on these two indexes, it is obvious that Turkey is in need of points to reach the world average. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
